ORIGIN
Alkaline is a Jamaican dancehall reggae artist. He’s known for hits like “Fleek”, “Things Take Time, “Champion Boy”, “ATM” and “Ride On Me (Remix)” featuring Sean Kingston. His full-length debut ‘New Level Unlocked’ was released in 2016. The deejay initially had fans and critics convinced that he tattooed his eyes. Alkaline was born Earlan Bartley on December 19, 1993, at the Victory Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. He was raised by parents Sharmain and Earl Bartley. Alkaline attended Ardenne High School followed by the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. He majored in media and communication.

CAREER
Bartley began deejaying and writing rhymes in high school. He began hitting up the recording studio at age 16. As for his nickname, it was given to him by his sister Kimona. Alkaline’s first single “Walk With You” dropped in 2011. He followed up with songs like “Church Folks”, “Ready” and “More Than a friend” in 2013. He picked up the pace, dropping 15 new tracks in 2014. Alkaline’s hardcore rhymes and bold lyrics earned him the breakout award at the 2014 21st Hapilos Awards ceremony. The following year gave rise to his most popular song “Fleek”, produced by True Loyal Records. The official video has been 52+ million times on YouTube. His joint project “Ride On Me (Remix)” featuring Sean Kingston also garnered millions of plays on YouTube.

Alkaline’s debut studio album, New Level Unlocked, was released in March 2016 by DJ Frass Records. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, the first dancehall album to do so in 5 years. New Level Unlocked ranked at #3 on Billboard’s 2016 list of best reggae albums. The project was supported by the singles “Champion Boy”, “City” and “ATM.” It also featured a guest appearance from Bobby V. Alkaline was featured on a remixed version of Shaggy’s “That Love.” That same year he was nominated for a MOBO Award for best reggae act. Alkaline released 15 new singles in 2017. His more recent recordings include “Juggernaut”, “Dutty Badmind” and “Deep Sleep.”
